The two-year Master of Science in Chemistry programme offered by the Department of Applied Science & Humanities trains students to conduct practical experiments and undertake research and innovation while they handle sophisticated instruments in the lab. The subjects that comprise the curriculum of this course include Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, Physical and Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Catalysts, Surfaces and Interfaces, Advanced Analytical Instrumental Methods, Heterocyclic and Bio-molecular Chemistry, and Chemistry of Organic Compounds. In the second year of the course, the students take on electives that help them specialize from among the four possible tracks of Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry.

Practical work, which forms a large component of the second year of the course, is done in the four specialist track areas, and in bio-compounds and chemical catalysts. The lab work is an extensive part of the curriculum and students are encouraged to look to innovative ideas to bring forth nascent research work.
