Mechanical Engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with physical machines and the study of force and movement. Production Engineering, also called manufacturing engineering, is a subset of mechanical engineering that deals with planning, designing, developing and managing of processes for producing high-quality products.
It is an interdisciplinary branch that blends engineering and technology, material physics and mechanical principles. It is an always-in-demand engineering domain as manufacturing is getting a boost both from private and public enterprises and manufacturing of quality goods is the need of the hour.
The two-year M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Production Engineering programme, offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, which is among the best mtech colleges in India, blends theoretical and practical learning to give students the opportunity to understand new manufacturing technologies, energy management in industrial setups, techniques of production and also to hone managerial qualities. The subjects included in the programme are Modern Welding Techniques, Foundry Technology, Modern Methods of Manufacturing, Metal Forming Technology, Mathematical Modelling and Optimisation, Production Planning and Control, and Advanced Machine Tool Design.
The second year of this master’s degree programme is devoted to more practical learning through electives, seminars and workshops, research-based thesis and project work. Lab and workshop are an integral part of the programme considering its emphasis on manufacturing techniques. A glimpse into supply chain is also given to the students through industry visits and interactions with professionals.
