Psychology Students Gain Clinical Exposure During Mental Hospital Visit
The Department of Psychology organised an educational visit to Mental Hospital, Bareilly, on 22 September 2026, giving students an opportunity to observe clinical mental health services and connect their classroom learning with practical experience.
Students of B.A. (Hons.) Psychology, accompanied by Ms. Divyanshi Rana and Mr. Aman Kumar Prajapati, visited different areas of the hospital and learned about the functioning of a clinical mental health facility.
During the visit, students observed patient consultations in the Outpatient Department (OPD) and interacted with practising doctors to understand the processes involved in psychological and psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and patient management. They also visited hospital wards and gained an understanding of patient care and the working environment within a mental health institution.
A key part of the visit was the tour of the Tele-MANAS counselling room. Students were introduced to the role of the 24/7 mental health support service and learned how technology can help extend access to counselling and mental health assistance.
The visit provided students with a closer understanding of clinical practice, patient care and the role of mental health professionals. It also encouraged them to look beyond theoretical concepts and observe how psychological knowledge is applied in professional settings.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Umesh Gautam, Pro-Chancellor Mr. Parth Gautam, Vice Chancellor Prof. Y.D.S. Arya, Dean Faculty of Science Prof. P.P. Singh, and Head of the Department Dr. Suchita Gupta.
The visit was coordinated by Ms. Divyanshi Rana, with the support of Mr. Aman Kumar Prajapati. The initiative provided students with meaningful professional exposure and strengthened the department’s focus on experiential learning and practical understanding of psychology.
