Online Guest Lecture on “Cryo-EM as a Tool to Understand Human Health: From GABA-A Receptors to Voltage-Gated Sodium Channels & HIV Vaccines.”

The Department of Biotechnology, Invertis University, Bareilly, successfully organized an Online Guest Lecture on 7th October 2025 on the topic “Cryo-EM as a Tool to Understand Human Health: From GABA-A Receptors to Voltage-Gated Sodium Channels & HIV Vaccines.” The lecture was delivered by Dr. Swastik Phulera, Staff Scientist at Scripps Research Institute, USA. The session offered students a deep understanding of Cryo-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM) and its pivotal role in biomedical research, particularly in studying receptor structures and developing HIV vaccines. Dr. Phulera highlighted how Cryo-EM has revolutionized structural biology, enabling visualization of biomolecules at near-atomic resolution and advancing research in neuroscience and immunology. The lecture was guided by Prof. P. P. Singh (Dean, Faculty of Sciences), Prof. Pankaj Kumar Rai (Head, Department of Biotechnology), and Dr. Lalita Dwivedi (Convenor), whose efforts ensured the smooth organization of the event. The interactive session received an enthusiastic response from students, who actively engaged with the speaker through insightful questions. The department extends heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Umesh Gautam, Executive Director Mr. Parth Gautam, and all academic leaders for their constant support and encouragement. The event proved to be an enriching academic experience, reinforcing the department’s commitment to fostering research-oriented learning and scientific curiosity among students.
