Students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication participated in Doordarshan News’ ‘Election Tracker’ programme in Bareilly, gaining practical exposure to electoral coverage, political discussions and the role of media in a democratic system.

The programme featured discussions on key public-interest issues, including education, women’s empowerment, social development and public welfare. Among the prominent participants were Cabinet Minister Dharampal Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Shruti Gangwar and District Panchayat Chairperson Rashmi Patel, who shared their perspectives on regional development and social concerns.

The interaction gave students an opportunity to observe how political discussions are conducted and how media platforms bring public issues into focus. They gained insights into election reporting, news gathering, political communication and the responsibilities of journalists in presenting information to citizens.

The experience also helped students understand the role of broadcast media in covering electoral activities and facilitating public engagement with democratic processes. Observing the programme provided practical context to concepts studied in the classroom, particularly reporting techniques, communication and coverage of current affairs.

The participation was organised under the guidance of Chancellor Dr. Umesh Gautam and Pro-Chancellor Mr. Parth Gautam.

The visit offered students valuable exposure to the working environment of a news programme and encouraged them to develop their observation, communication and reporting skills. Such industry-oriented learning experiences help journalism students connect academic concepts with professional media practices and understand the importance of responsible reporting.
