The Department of Fashion Design, Invertis University, organised a hands-on workshop titled “Japanese Kinusaiga: Where Fabric Meets Art” on September 17, 2026. The workshop introduced students to the traditional Japanese art of Kinusaiga, a distinctive textile art technique that creates detailed fabric compositions without stitching.

The workshop familiarised students with the process of using colourful fabric pieces and carefully tucking them into a foam or thermocol base to create intricate patterns and designs. The activity provided students with an opportunity to explore fabric, colour, texture and composition through a practical and creative approach.

Students from all three years of the Department of Fashion Design participated in the workshop with enthusiasm. Through hands-on experimentation, they transformed simple pieces of fabric into creative artworks, exploring different combinations of colours, textures and patterns. The activity encouraged students to pay attention to detail while developing their own artistic interpretations.

The workshop also provided an opportunity for students to understand textile art beyond conventional stitching and garment construction. By working directly with fabric materials and experimenting with different compositions, students were able to engage with an artistic technique that combines traditional craft with creative design thinking.

Each artwork reflected the individual approach and creativity of the participating students. The process required patience, precision and careful placement of fabric, allowing students to develop their observation and execution skills while working on their compositions.

The hands-on nature of the workshop made it an engaging experiential learning activity for the students. It encouraged them to experiment with materials, explore new creative possibilities and appreciate the artistic potential of textiles.

The Japanese Kinusaiga workshop served as a meaningful creative learning experience for the students of the Department of Fashion Design, bringing together traditional Japanese craft, textile exploration and contemporary design thinking in an interactive setting.
