Educational & Social Visit: Gopalpur Village

An educational social visit to Gopalpur Village was conducted for the students of the second year for practical training in rural journalism by the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Invertis University.
The aim of organizing such visit was to provide students with practical experience in journalism and improving their communication skills at grassroots levels. During the visit, the students talked to the villagers and created awareness among them regarding media literacy and the need to be cautious while using digital platforms for spreading rumors and misleading news. The students emphasized that not everything that comes to us through mobile phones and social media websites like WhatsApp and Facebook needs to be accepted because of its potential to spread misinformation and fake news, which could be identified easily through source verification.
The role of media literacy in creating awareness regarding the significance of being careful while using digital platforms for sharing news and views was discussed by the students. The villagers also participated enthusiastically in the conversation and raised different issues related to education, health care, unemployment, and information.
Dean Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Head of the Department Dr. Lalit Kumar, and faculty members played significant roles in facilitating the activity.
