Clause & Cause Challenges B.Com. Students to Solve Contract Law Puzzles

The Department of B.Com., Faculty of Management, organised “Clause & Cause: The Ultimate Legal Puzzle” at Seminar Hall 2, using an interactive competition to help students understand the practical application of the Indian Contract Act, 1872.
The activity centred on key legal concepts, including contracts, agreements, consideration, bailment, negligence, damages and reasonable care. Through a series of legal puzzles, students were encouraged to interpret situations, apply relevant principles and work together to arrive at reasoned solutions.
Dr. Mohnish Kumar, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Management, conceptualised and convened the event alongside Dr. Manmohan Bansal, Assistant Professor. The programme was organised under the guidance of Prof. Manish Gupta, Dean, Management, and Dr. Nitin Sareen, HOD, B.Com.
The puzzle-based format challenged participants to move beyond memorising legal definitions and consider how contractual principles apply to practical situations. Students exercised analytical reasoning, interpreted legal issues and collaborated with teammates to solve the challenges.
Team “The Pleaders” secured first position. The winning team comprised Riddhi Agrawal, Farman Beg, Dhanya Varshney, Gori Gupta and Ayushi Gupta.
The programme was attended by Mr. Santosh Kumar, Registrar; Prof. R.K. Shukla; Prof. Rajesh Sharma; Prof. Raju C. Veloti; and Er. Awadhesh Kumar. The event received support from Chancellor Dr. Umesh Gautam and Pro-Chancellor Mr. Parth Gautam, with special acknowledgement to Prof. Manish Gupta for facilitating the initiative.
Student coordinators Vansh Mehrotra, Dharni Gupta, Siddhi Agarwal, Sameeksha Jindal, Roly Gupta, Saloni Yadav, Puja Joshi and Uday Vaish supported the organisation and execution of the programme.
By combining legal concepts with problem-solving activities, Clause & Cause gave B.Com. students a practical way to explore contract law. The initiative demonstrated how interactive learning can help management students develop a clearer understanding of legal principles relevant to business and commercial transactions.
