The four-year B Tech in Mechanical Engineering programme offered by the
Department of Mechanical Engineering helps the students gain knowledge in the core
dimensions of manufacturing, mechanical systems, system dynamics and control, and
transportation systems.
The curriculum includes subjects such as calculus, differential equations, solid
mechanics, fuels and internal combustion engines, hydraulics and pneumatics, and
instrumentation and measurement among others. The B Tech in Mechanical
Engineering students spend as much time in the labs as they do in the
classroom since this branch of engineering needs hands-on skills to be developed.
In the last two decades, mechanical engineering has evolved to also include increased
community-based project handling to gain real-life skills, and research work to develop
better machines and their functioning. The evolving areas of mechanical engineering
include robotics, cryogenics, and biomechanics.
