National Institute of Disaster Management(NIDM), New Delhi and Department of Civil Engineering, Invertis University Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh are jointly organizing a Webinar on Flood Risk Management & Pathways on 28, June,2021, National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is a premium institute and a Statutory Body(under Disaster Management Act 2005) for training, research, documentation, awareness and human resources and capacity development in the field of disaster mitigation and management. Floods are the most frequent type of natural disaster and occur when an overflow of water submerges land that is usually dry, Because of a number of river system each year flood become a forefront disaster particularly in the state of Bihar, Bengal & Uttar Pradesh, Floods are often caused by heavy rainfall, rapid snowmelt or a storm surge from a tropical cyclone or tsunami in coastal areas.Floods can cause widespread devastation, resulting in loss of life and damages to personal property and critical public health infrastructure.

Globally Between 1998-2017, floods affected more than 2 billion people worldwide. People who live in floodplains or non-resistant buildings, or lack warning systems and awareness of flooding hazards, are most vulnerable to floods. As per State Authorities of the various natural disasters floods are the most commonly occurring in Uttar Pradesh, affecting almost every year some part of the state or the other. Important rivers, which create floods in the State, are the Ganga, the Yamuna, the Ramganga, the Gomti, the Sharda, the Ghaghra, the Rapti and the Gandak. The Ganga River basin of U.P. experiences normal rainfall in the region from 60 cm to 190 cm of which more than 80% occur during the southwest monsoon. Due to floods, an average of 26.89 lakh hectares is affected annually, and the estimated loss to crops is Rs.432 crore annually. Apart from these, loss of human life also occurs. The objective of holding this webinar is to disseminate information about Flood Risk Management & future pathways among the participants/delegates & also create awareness in the society, Participants will be provided with authorized e- certificates.
