Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering

Intake: 50

  • Programme CodeBTECH-003
  • Duration 4 Years
  • Programme Graduate Programme
  • Department Department of Mechanical Engineering
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Mechanical Engineering is the study of machines, and combines the principles of engineering physics with math, along with those of material science. This stream of engineering is important since all industry and a lot of household work is dependent upon machinery of some sort. Mechanical engineers require an in-depth understanding of thermodynamics and structural analysis and their jobs focus on the design, manufacture and maintenance of mechanical systems. This engineering domain is useful in multiple areas such as manufacturing-based factories, supply chain manufacturing, real estate machinery, medical machinery, and home appliances.

The four-year B Tech in Mechanical Engineering programme offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering helps the students gain knowledge in the core dimensions of manufacturing, mechanical systems, system dynamics and control, and transportation systems.

The curriculum includes subjects such as calculus, differential equations, solid mechanics, fuels and internal combustion engines, hydraulics and pneumatics, and instrumentation and measurement among others. The B Tech in Mechanical Engineering students spend as much time in the labs as they do in the classroom since this branch of engineering needs hands-on skills to be developed.

In the last two decades, mechanical engineering has evolved to also include increased community-based project handling to gain real-life skills, and research work to develop better machines and their functioning. The evolving areas of mechanical engineering include robotics, cryogenics, and biomechanics.
