INDUSTRIAL VISIT OF B.TECH. BIOTECH STUDENTS TO ORIENTAL AROMATICS

on 09/Apr/2019

Invertis University recognizes the fact that field trips and excursions are important components for the overall development of our students and sensitize them to the practical challenges and working environment of Industry. Department of Biotechnology organized Industrial visit of B.Tech Biotech VI semester students to Oriental Aromatics Limited, Bareilly, on 9th April, 2019 as a part of their academic curriculum .The students were accompanied by faculty Dr. Manali Singh. During the visit, students visited several production and manufacturing units of various products of Camphor. They were given demonstration of all the machinery involved in the process, initiating from the step of pre-processing of raw materials to mixing of raw materials, sterilization & preparation of samples. Camphor is obtained through steam distillation, purification and sublimation of wood, twigs and bark of the tree. Camphor (C10H16O), is a naturally occurring bicyclic ketone, which is principally present in the volatile oils of camphor ex Cinnamomum camphora (Linn.) .Today, camphor is chemically manufactured from turpentine oil. It is used as an important ingredient in various pharma, cosmetics and perfumery products.  Thus industrial visits supplement and enrich classroom learning and encourage novel interests amongst students.  It also makes them more aware of community resources and helps them relate their educational experience to the practical insights to industry operations, nuances and realities in their respective areas of specialization. There by getting hands-on technical knowledge.
