INDUSTRIAL VISIT OF B.TECH. BIOTECH STUDENTS TO ORIENTAL AROMATICS
Invertis University recognizes the fact that field trips and
excursions are important components for the overall development of our students and sensitize them to the practical
challenges and working environment of Industry. Department
of Biotechnology organized Industrial visit of B.Tech Biotech VI semester
students to Oriental Aromatics Limited, Bareilly, on 9th April, 2019 as a part of their academic curriculum .The students were
accompanied by faculty Dr. Manali Singh. During the visit, students visited several production
and manufacturing units of various products of Camphor.
They were given demonstration of all the machinery involved in the process,
initiating from the step of pre-processing of raw materials to mixing of raw
materials, sterilization & preparation of samples.
Camphor is obtained through steam distillation, purification
and sublimation of wood, twigs and bark of the tree. Camphor (C10H16O),
is a naturally occurring bicyclic ketone, which is principally present in the
volatile oils of camphor ex Cinnamomum camphora (Linn.) .Today, camphor is
chemically manufactured from turpentine oil. It is used as an important
ingredient in various pharma, cosmetics and perfumery products.
industrial visits supplement and enrich classroom learning and encourage novel
interests amongst students. It also
makes them more aware of community resources and helps them relate their
educational experience to the practical insights to industry operations, nuances and realities in their respective areas of specialization. There by getting hands-on technical knowledge.
