Event Description

Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities, Invertis University has organized a guest lecture for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students through online platform on November 12, 2020.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ashish Km Chaturvedi, Scientist, Water Management (Agri.) Division Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) Kunnamangalam, Kozhikode - 673571, Kerala, India. The topic of his lecture was   "Climate change impact assessment through field based simulation experiments in different ecosystems".

The lecture was started with welcome speech of Prof. P P Singh, Dean Faculty of Sciences, following to the formal introduction of the speaker by Dr. Santosh Joshi.

In his lecture Dr. Chaturvedi has discussed about the consequences of climatic changes on the environment. He also disclosed about various experimental parameters for assessment of climatic changes. According to him there are mainly three types of consequences of climatic changes, these may change in CO2  concentration, increase of average temperature of earth and occurrence of droughts as well as floods. The impact of all these conditions can be checked by designing the field experiments with equipments like phytotrons, open top chambers and polyhouses.

At last he emphasized the importance of field base simulation experiments in the conservation of biodiversity. He also suggested some of methods to prevent drastic changes into the climatic conditions which ultimately lead to loss of biodiversity. According to him, although modification of climatic condition is triggered by natural factors but the intervention of humans accelerated this process. So he has promoted the sustainable development which means development but not on the cost of destruction of natural environment.

At the end of session, he also interacted with students and cleared their doubts and queries. The lecture was ended with the concluding remarks of Dr. Kamlesh Km Dubey Head of Department and vote of thanks by Dr. Satendra Singh.
