National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), New Delhi and Department of Civil Engineering, Invertis University Bareilly, U.P. are jointly organizing Fifth webinar on “CIVIL ENGINEERS & DISASTER RISK REDUCTION (DRR)” Disasters, either natural or man-made, have a severe impact on the individual society to the whole nation. The increasing frequency of disasters has become one development of the nation. The ironic fact is that disasters are not avoidable completely. In this perspective, civil engineers can play a crucial role by contributing to the disaster management field in two important ways: in the setting of design and safety standards, and the actual design and construction of infrastructure used to prevent damage and losses caused by hazards.

The planning, setting up and maintenance of emergency relief camps, provision of adequate potable water supply adequate and hygienic sanitation facilities (WATSAN) are the main responsibilities of a Civil Engineer associated with the Disaster Management team. Not only the planning, setting up and maintenance are the core responsibilities it is also the responsibility of the Civil Engineer to ensure that the provisions are as per standard norms laid down by various International Relief Organisations like the World Bank, International Red Cross etc. The objective of holding this webinar is to disseminate information about the role of Civil Engineers in DRR among the participants/delegates & also create a vast and multi-disciplinary understanding of the issues pertaining to safer buildings, resilient infrastructure & practices among in the society. After successful completion of the programme & feedback registered participants will be provided with authorized e-certificates from NIDM & INVERTIS University.
