Guest Lecture On Livestock and Poultry Management (Advances in Animal Identification Techniques)

An Expert Talk was organized on “Advances in Animal Identification Techniques” for B.Sc. (Hons) Agricultural 4th and 6th semester students on 29/05/2021, from 12:15 to 01:15 PM on online mode, by the Department of Agricultural, INVERTIS UNIVERSITY.

Dr. Mukesh Singh Principal Scientist, from ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar was the expert guest lecturer.

The purpose of this expert talk was to create awareness among students regarding the importance of animal identification and its techniques/methods available that can be suitably adopted in a livestock farm.

Animal identification is the basis for keeping accurate production records of the herd/flock. Individual animal identification allows livestock owners to keep records on an animal's parentage, birth date, production records, health history, etc. for its better management productivity on a sustainable basis. It was emphasized that a good visible identification mark on livestock ensures legal ownership and deters thieves from stealing it.

The lecture session progressed further with the presentation by the guest lecturer/expert explaining various methods and techniques being used in Cattle, Sheep and Goat, Horse, Pig, and Poultry Farms. The students were very responsive to the topic and keenly interacted with the expert to get a better understanding of the subject, and to clear their doubts regarding its merits and demerits, limitations and possibilities in the Indian context.

The talk ended with a vote of thanks to the expert.
